Introduction

The Qianlong Program, also known as the hidden dragon program from the Chinese literate meaning, is dedicated to finding, cultivating and investing in entrepreneurs whose businesses have the potential of reaching a $10 billion market value in the future.

The Western investment community often mentions the unicorn, and we are talking about the dragon, a counterpart of the unicorn in Chinese culture. The term unicorn has a focus on enterprises with an investment perspective, whereas the term dragon as we mentioned concentrates on people with an educational insight. However, our dragon-hunting operation lays stress on a close combination of knowledge and capital and a close cooperation between scholars and investors.

It did not shock the world when Japan surpassed Germany and became the second largest GDP in the world in 1968. But the fact that Japan kept its ranking for a decade consecutively and had a potential to become the largest GDP in the world aroused great attention from the United States. Japan’s momentum to catch up the U.S. did not last long. Now that China replaced Japan as the second largest economy in the world, however, almost no one in the world believes that China cannot surpass the United States. When China’s GDP exceeded that of the U.S thanks to the adjusted PPP strategy in 2014, Joseph Eugene Stiglitz, professor at Columbia University and a Nobel Laureate in Economics, wrote an article named "2015, the Real China Century Is Coming".

In 2016, the U.S. GDP reached 18.03 trillion U.S. dollars, and China’s 11.2 trillion U.S. dollars, 62% of the U.S.; by the end of May 2017, there were 515 companies with a $10 billion market value in the U.S., and 120 in China, 24% of that of the U.S. Among these 120 enterprises, non-state-owned enterprises accounted for only 10%. This is where the "Dragon Hunting" project should play its role. Statistics predict that the number of companies with $10 billion market value in China should increase by 200 at present and by 400 in the future; so where are these 400 “dragons”?

As a pioneer of entrepreneurship and innovation education in China, Xinrui Business School officially launched the "Dragon Hunting" project in 2018 to find China's high-growth enterprises with a potential of obtaining $10 billion market value. Two cohorts of enrollment for the Qianlong Program have been completed until now.
